NEW HARMONY, Washington County— Two people died Tuesday afternoon in a rollover on state Route 144, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.
UHP spokesman Cameron Roden said a pickup truck was traveling at a high rate of speed along the highway when the tread on a rear tire separated, causing the driver to lose control and the vehicle to roll several times. The vehicle broke into several pieces as it rolled.
The two victims, who were pronounced dead at the scene, were identified as Jason McDonald, 38, Cedar City, and Adaline Anna Moore, 12, Peoria, Ariz. Four other passengers were in the vehicle. A 7-year-old girl was flown to Primary Children's Medical Center, and an 18-year-old man was flown to Intermountain Medical Center, both in critical condition. A 14-year-old girl and an 18-year-old woman were transported by ground to a Cedar City hospital in serious condition.
Roden said the accident occurred about 3:30 p.m. near 3800 East in New Harmony.
