SOUTH SALT LAKE — Police here were looking Monday for a suspected bank robber who attempted to carjack a woman during his getaway.
Just after 9 a.m., a man walked into Wells Fargo near 3300 S. State Street and was the second person in line when the bank opened, said South Salt Lake police detective Gary Keller.
When the man got to the counter, he handed the teller a note demanding money and threatening that he had a weapon, though none was seen. The man left with an undisclosed amount of cash.
During his getaway, the man attempted to pull a woman by her hair out of her car, Keller said. However, the man was "spooked" and ran off when he saw another person witness what was happening, Keller said. The woman was shaken by otherwise not injured.
A backpack and a blue T-shirt, possibly worn by the robber, were found in a nearby Dumpster. Detectives were looking at the items Monday to determine if they could be connected to the man, Keller said.
Anyone with information about the robbery can call police at 801-840-4000.
