Pump-N-Run team tops New York squad
The 17-year-old Utah Pump-N-Run Red team won its first round championship bracket game in the Adidas Super 64. UPNR Red defeated Upstate Basketball Club from New York 74-57. Upstate was a first-place team from its pool. UPNR Red received substantial contributions from all nine of its team members.
The team was led in scoring by Kyle Collinsworth's 22 points, but remaining points were spread evenly among his teammates. Ben Clifford and Connor Brady each had 9, Nicholas Paulos and Raul Delgado added 8 apiece, Neil Monson finished with 7, Shad Sommerville 6, Tyler Fa'alogo 5 and Will Watkins had 2.
The Utah Pump-N-Run 16s made the Final 16 in the Adidas Super 64 Tournament in Las Vegas.
In bracket play, the Utah team downed higher-placed Indiana Elite Garlets and Urban DFW (from Texas), but were denied a berth in the quarterfinals by New Heights NYC. Despite a one-point lead at halftime in a surprisingly defensive game 15-14, the second half against the New Yorkers had plenty of fireworks. Both teams battled, and despite a flurry of 3s in the closing minutes, the Utah squad dropped the game, 56-44.
The team now moves on to L.A. for the "Best of the Summer" tournament this week.
