Career highlights: A decorated European star with 75 career appearances with the Swedish National Team, including playing in the 2002 and 2006 World Cup. His club career includes a lengthy and impressive stay at Arsenal, as well as a stop at West Ham United. He's adapted quickly to MLS and been a bright spot for Seattle.
Chad Marshall, Columbus, D

Hometown: Riverside, Calif.

Career highlights: The second overall pick in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft, Marshall has spent his entire career with Columbus. This is his first all-star selection despite being named the 2008 MLS Defender of the Year for leading the Crew to the MLS Cup championship last year. He's also an emerging defender with the U.S. National Team.

Career highlights: Enjoying a scintillating season in his first year in Seattle with nine goals and six assists. He twice was named the Colombian First Division's golden boot winner before joining Seattle on loan from Deportivo Cali in January. The youngster has made four appearances with the Colombian National Team.

Career highlights: Joined RSL in the summer of 2007, and this his first all-star selection. He enjoyed a scintillating 2008 campaign with 15 assists and six goals, leading RSL to its first playoff appearance. Spent the first eight years of his career playing professionally in Argentina and Spain.

Career highlights: The oldest player in the league seems to be getting better with age and is making his third all-star appearance. He's enjoying an MLS-best 0.72 goals against. In 2003 and 2005 he was named the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year. He's made 56 appearances with the Canadian National Team since his debut in 1988.

Career highlights: Named to the squad this weekend, replacing Brian Ching, who is suffering from fatigue. Chicago made Soumare the second overall selection in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft, and he's started 53 games ever since.
