WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: With a team cumulative grade-point average of 3.34, the Utah Valley University volleyball team was one of 71 Division I programs to receive the 2008-09 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic

Award.

A total of five Wolverine players were named to the 2008 Great West Conference All-Academic Volleyball Team: Kristin Anderson; Kayli Broadbent; Kristi Lindley; Dani Robison and Allyce Jones.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: A meeting with champions from three different conferences and a relatively easy preseason travel schedule are in store for the 2009-2010 Weber State University Wildcat men's basketball team.

The Wildcats face WAC champion and 30 game winner, Utah State in the season opener at the Dee Events Center in Ogden on Nov. 13, then face the Aggies again in Logan on Dec. 23 as part of a three-game tournament hosted by USU.

The 'Cats play at Mountain West Conference regular season champion, BYU, on Nov. 27, following by a home game with Mountain West Conference Tournament champion, Utah, in Ogden on Dec. 2. BYU posted a 25-8 record overall in 2008-09 while the Utes were 24-10. The Wildcats face a third MWC member then they meet the UNLV Runnin' Rebels in Las Vegas, on Dec. 17. The Rebels posted a 21-11 record in 2008-09 and lost at Kentucky in the opening round of the NIT.

"We have a pretty demanding pre-season schedule," said WSU head coach, Randy Rahe. "We play five games against instate opponents, three of whom had a combined record of 79-23 last season.

Plus play difficult games on the road at UNLV, UC Santa Barbara and Seattle University. Seattle is becoming a Division I member again and they had a great season last year and return everyone, so we have our hands full. Plus this season, we begin Big Sky play on December 5 so we that to deal with as well but we are excited and ready to face those challenges."

In order to complete the Big Sky Conference schedule and accommodate those teams in the conference playing the Bracket Buster, the conference as a weekend of early games in December. The Wildcats play just a single game on Dec. 5 at Sacramento State, the return to action at home on Jan. 1 and 2 with Montana State and Montana. The Big Sky Conference will go to a Friday-Saturday format in 2009-2010 with the exception of the road trip to Northern Arizona-Northern Colorado which will be a Thursday-Saturday format.

The Wildcats begin exhibition game play on Nov. 2 at home with Colorado-Colorado Springs followed by a Nov. 7 game with Colorado Christian University.

Weber State will make one appearance on the Altitude Game of Week. That comes at Portland State on Sunday, February 28 in the final regular season game before the Big Sky Conference Tournament.
