PHOENIX — The court date for Phoenix Mercury all-star guard Diana Taurasi, who faces three drunken driving charges including extreme DUI, has been postponed until Aug. 21.
Taurasi was scheduled to appear Wednesday in Phoenix Municipal Court, but attorneys agreed to a continuation. She was suspended two games without pay by the Mercury for "conduct detrimental to the team" regarding the July 2 incident. Taurasi missed last Saturday's game against Detroit and also was sitting out Wednesday night's game against Minnesota. She is listed as a reserve for Saturday's WNBA All-Star Game in Connecticut.
The 27-year-old guard was cited hours after she scored 22 points in the Mercury's 93-81 victory over the Seattle Storm on July 1. A Phoenix police report showed Taurasi's blood-alcohol level was 0.17 percent, more than twice the Arizona legal limit of 0.08 percent. Taurasi was the top pick in the 2004 WNBA draft after leading Connecticut to three consecutive NCAA titles.
