Fire department reminds public of firework safety

The Salt Lake City Fire Department wants to remind the public that the following areas are restricted from any fireworks use:

Commencing at a point where I-215 enters Salt Lake City limits.

All points east of I-215 to 2100 South, then east to Wasatch Drive, then north to Sunnyside Avenue.

All areas east of Arapeen Drive from Sunnyside Avenue to Wakara Way.

All areas east of a line projected from Arapeen and Wakara Way to Wasatch Drive and South Campus Drive.

All areas east of Wasatch Drive to North Campus Drive.

All areas east of Virginia Street (1300 E.) from South Temple to 11th Avenue.

All areas north of 11th Avenue to City Creek Canyon. Both sides of City Creek Canyon.

From the west side of City Creek Canyon, all areas north of 500 North to 200 West, north on 200 West to Wall Street, along Wall Street until it intersects with Beck Street, then north to the northern city limits.

All areas west of I-215 in Salt Lake City.

The department has also issued reminders on other fireworks information:

Only Class C fireworks are allowed.

Fireworks may be discharged from July 21 to July 27 in approved areas.

You must be at least 16 years old to purchase fireworks.

Parents are strongly encouraged to supervise their children while using fireworks.

Keep a bucket of water nearby to place spent fireworks in for at least 12 hours before discarding into a garbage can.

Fireworks such as bottle rockets and Roman candles are strictly prohibited.

Fireworks laws will be strictly enforced.
