A Sandy resident's burger recipe was selected for the 3rd annual "Red Robin Kids' Cook-Off Cookbook. Ten-year-old Benjamin Mitchell's Dare Devil Burger can be downloaded at www.redrobin.com beginning July 28. The cookbook features 49 other kid-invented gourmet burger recipes, selected from more than 14,000 entries submitted by children ages 6-12. The grand-prize-winning burger — the Holy-Peno Burger by 8-year-old Charlie Beckett from Rathdrum, Idaho, will sold at all U.S. Red Robin restaurants.
Tracks Brewing Co., 1641 N. Main, Tooele, held a grand reopening last week to celebrate Utah's new liquor law that allows it to be open to the public. The restaurant's menu includes a variety of sandwiches and burgers, chicken and steak, and a daily special. The restaurant is open until 10 p.m.; after that, there's night-life entertainment. Tracks is owned by Tooele's Applegate family and Cheri M. Watts (www.tracksbrewing.com).
Share Our Strength's Taste of the Nation takes place Aug. 2, noon-4 p.m., at Solitude Mountain resort. This is the 10th anniversary for the fundraiser, where more than 40 Utah chefs and restaurants will serve some of their signature dishes. Tickets are $75 for general admission and $125 for reserved seating, if purchased in advance. Funds benefit the Utah Food Bank Services, Utahns Against Hunger and The Ogden Weber Community Action Partnership. In the past 10 years, Taste of the Nation has raised more than $644,000 to fight hunger in Utah.
Some of the participants are Stein Eriksen Lodge's Glitretind, Trio, Bambara, Red Iguana, Garden Cafe at Grand America, Metropolitan, Tipica, and Liberty Heights Fresh Market. The local pastry chefs will staff the dessert booth, sharing samples of cupcakes, panna cotta, petit fours, tarts, chocolate dipped fruit and cookies. There will also be an auction of weekend getaways and chef-prepared meals.

The 20th Annual Tabasco Community Cookbook Awards deadline for entries is Sept. 25. First established by McIlhenny Co. in 1989, the awards were created to recognize the best of the thousands of cookbooks published annually to generate funds for charitable causes and preserve America's culinary history. The national first-place winner receives a $2,500 charity donation; each regional winner receives a $500 donation. For entry information, log on to www.tabasco.com.
