BIG COTTONWOOD CANYON — Emergency responders were busy in Big Cottonwood Canyon Sunday night.
About 7:45 p.m., search and rescue crews were called to help a 71-year-old man who was cramping. The man and family members had hiked to popular Lake Blanche when he began to cramp up, said Salt Lake County Sheriff's Lt. Don Hutson. Rescue crews responded and helped walk the man down.
The Web site climb-utah.com recommends hikers take at least 2 liters of water per person when hiking that trail.
At the same time rescuers were responding to the hiker, medical crews were also called to the Ledgemere camping area where boiling water accidently spilled on a 6-year-old girl. The toddler suffered 2nd degree burns on her arms and torso and was taken to a local hospital.
