MAGNA — An Draper police officer suffered minor injuries Saturday after his patrol car struck a vehicle being operated by an inebriated driver, investigators say.
The officer was traveling east on the 2100 South freeway about 5 a.m. when a westbound Dodge Stratus attempted to turn left onto 8000 West, cutting in front of him, said Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Brian Hyer. The officer applied his brakes, but clipped the rear of the Stratus. The force of the impact caused the patrol car to roll twice and the officer received minor injuries. He was wearing a seatbelt.
The Stratus had two occupants, yet neither was injured. The driver was arrested for investigation of drunk driving and the passenger was transported home by a sheriff's deputy.
Hyer said speed does not appear to be a factor in the incident.
The officer was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and later released.
