MLB roundup: Moyer, Howard fuel Phillies' win

MIAMI — Jamie Moyer allowed one hit in seven innings, Ryan Howard became the fastest player to reach 200 homers and the Philadelphia Phillies extended their winning streak to six games with a 4-0 victory over Florida on Thursday night.

Ryan Madson and J.C. Romero pitched one perfect inning each to complete the combined one-hitter.

Moyer (9-6) has won all eight of his career starts in Miami, and he's 13-2 overall against the Marlins.

The 29-year-old Howard hit his 23rd homer of the season in the sixth inning to reach the 200 milestone in 658 games, fewer than any player in major league history. Ralph Kiner, previously the fastest player to reach 200, did it in 706 games.

All-Star Raul Ibanez hit two home runs, giving him 24 this season.

BREWERS 9, REDS 6: At Cincinnati, Home Run Derby winner Prince Fielder hit a three-run shot that got Milwaukee going. Fielder connected in the third inning to make it 3-0. Braden Looper (8-4) went 5 1/3 innings and had three hits himself, including a broken-bat, RBI single that extended Milwaukee's five-run rally in the sixth. The three hits — all singles — matched his total for the season and were a career high. Seth McClung gave up a three-run homer in the eighth to Edwin Encarnacion, who drove in four runs. Trevor Hoffman pitched the ninth for his 21st save in 23 chances. The Reds (42-46) have dropped seven of nine, falling four games under .500 for the first time this season. Joey Votto hit a two-run homer off Looper, who gave up seven hits and three runs.

BRAVES 5, METS 3: At Atlanta, Chipper Jones drove in the go-ahead run for Atlanta in the seventh inning. The Braves broke a 3-3 tie against the New York bullpen, which gave up two runs in two innings. Atlanta relievers gave up one hit in three scoreless innings. Pedro Feliciano (2-3) walked pinch-hitter Brooks Conrad, who advanced to third on Martin Prado's hit-and-run single to left off Bobby Parnell. Jones, a .330 career hitter against the Mets, drove in Conrad with a single to right off Parnell. Pinch-hitter Greg Norton added a run-scoring single off Pat Misch, New York's third reliever, in the eighth.

Manny Acosta (1-0) pitched a scoreless seventh, Peter Moylan retired the Mets in order in the eighth and Rafael Soriano earned his 13th save.

CUBS 6, NATIONALS 2: At Washington, Rich Harden allowed three hits over six innings, Derrek Lee homered and Chicago spoiled the debut of Washington interim manager Jim Riggleman. Harden (6-6), who had won only one of his previous seven starts, improved to 4-1 on the road. He allowed an unearned run, walked none and struck out seven.
