SPANISH FORK — A two-alarm fire heavily damaged a Spanish Fork home Thursday.
Jarvis said a woman living at the home gave birth just Wednesday night and was still in the hospital at the time of the fire, said Spanish Fork Fire Marshal Joe Jarvis.
The woman's husband left home around at 7 a.m. Thursday to drop the couple's two children off at a relative's home before heading to work, Jarvis said. Shortly afterward, a passer-by noticed flames licking the roof of a home at 685 E. 500 North and called the fire department.
Jarvis said the blaze caused an estimated $100,000 in damage and gutted the home's upper level. He said the fire appeared to have started in the closet of a master bedroom and rendered the home uninhabitable, but the cause is still under investigation.
Four Spanish Fork engines responded to the fire as well as an engine from Springville.
