A TRAX train accident sent a man to the hospital in critical condition Tuesday evening.

The man, 52, was attempting to catch the train at 450 S. Main when it made contact with him. The train had just left the courthouse stop northbound at about 9:30 p.m. when the accident occurred, Salt Lake Police Lt. Melody Gray said.

"The man did not go under the train but made contact with the side of the train," UTA spokesman Gerry Carpenter said, noting the man suffered some lacerations.

Salt Lake police were still conducting an investigation late Tuesday evening.

"As is standard in these cases, we do put our operator on administrative leave and do a standard drug and alcohol test," Carpenter said.
