BYU Cougars

PDL Standings: 6-5-3, 21 points, 4th place, Southwest Division

Last week: Beat Fresno, 1-0; Lost to Orange County, 1-0.

Next up: vs. Bakersfield, Friday.

BYU's slim playoff hopes fell by the wayside last weekend, as the Cougars fell Saturday at home to Orange County a day after beating Fresno. BYU conceded a penalty kick against Orange County and ultimately couldn't get going offensively in the crucial contest. The Cougars will wrap up their 2009 season with another pair of home games this weekend, as Bakersfield and Lancaster will visit South Field on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

Ogden Outlaws

PDL Standings:3-10-1, 10 points, 9th place, Southwest Division

Last week: Beat Orange County, 1-0; Beat Fresno, 2-1.

Next up: vs. Lancaster, Friday.

The Outlaws had a positive week as they notched back-to-back wins at home to climb out of last place in the Southwest Division. On Friday, Ogden scored early and held on against Orange County to produce its first win in over a month. One day later, the Outlaws posted a 2-1 win over Fresno as Sungyun Kim scored both goals. Individually, Kim enjoyed a stellar weekend as he also assisted on Ogden's lone goal in the Orange County win.

Salt Lake Sparta

WPSL Standings: 6-2-1, 19 points, 2nd place, Big Sky North Division

Last week: Beat Utah, 1-0.

Next up: at Denver, Saturday.

Salt Lake took care of business last week by beating Utah at home, and it'll attempt to put itself in position to make the playoffs when it travels to Denver this weekend for a huge pair of back-to-back matches. With three games remaining, Sparta trails Arizona by two points in the Big Sky North Standings (21 points to 19), but the second-year WPSL club would finish ahead of Arizona if it wins all three games.

Utah Starzz

WPSL Standings: 2-5-4, 10 points, 3rd place, Big Sky North Division

Last week: Lost to Salt Lake, 1-0; Lost to Arizona, 2-1; Lost to Arizona, 3-0.

Next up: vs. Salt Lake, July 22nd.

Against the elite two teams in the Big Sky North Division, Utah played hard last week but ultimately came up short in three games. In the middle of the week, the Starzz fell on the road to rival Salt Lake, 1-0. And then last weekend, they dropped back-to-back games on the road to Arizona. Following a week off, Utah will wrap up its inaugural season in the WPSL when it hosts Salt Lake next week.
