WASATCH COUNTY — A West Jordan man died Friday night after crashing his motorcycle while navigating a turn on state Route 40 about 15 miles east of Heber City, police said.

David M. Evans, 61, was driving a Honda touring bike when he lost control of the machine and left the roadway around 8 p.m., said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Ted Tingey. Evans traveled about 20 feet up an embankment on the shoulder of the road before he was thrown from the bike, and both he and the motorcycle tumbled back down the slope.

Evans was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tingey said drugs and alcohol were not a factor, but speed is being investigated as a possible cause. Evans was wearing a helmet.

State Route 40 was closed in both directions for about 40 minutes while emergency crews responded to the scene.
