ST. GEORGE — The body of a Latino man has been found in a remote area of Washington County, and authorities are investigating the death as a homicide.
Sheriff's investigators say the body was found by a passing motorist Friday near Gooseberry Mesa, about seven miles north of Rockville.
They say it's uncertain how long the body had been there, but it was badly decomposed. There were no visible wounds to determine the cause of death.
Investigators say identification was found with the body, but they're withholding the man's name until his family has been notified.
The body will be sent to the Utah Medical Examiners' Office in Salt Lake City.
Investigators say preliminary autopsy results may be released Monday.
