FBI agents arrested a Taylorsville man Thursday who, they say, confessed to having robbed a credit union.

The District Attorney's Office charged 21-year-old Sean Paul Hughes with aggravated robbery Friday in connection with a credit union robbery four days prior in which a man took cash from Hercules Credit Union at 3171 W. 4700 South. Officials did not say how much money was taken.

A robber handed a note to a teller Monday morning, which demanded cash and indicated the holdup man had a firearm.

Media gave the robbery "significant attention," Special Agent Juan Becerra told the Deseret News.

The arrest came after an anonymous tipster called Taylorsville police with an address, indicating having recognized the robber in a media report. FBI was involved because federally insured banks are their jurisdiction.

Agents arrested Hughes at his residence Thursday.

"Hughes was interviewed and admitted his involvement in the Hercules Credit Union robbery," according to Becerra. "The confession included details of how the proceeds from the credit union robbery were spent and his activities prior to and following the robbery."
