Utah Jazz rookies get defensive to quiet Thunder youngsters
MAITLAND, Fla. — This is the sort of performance that would even put a smile on Jerry Sloan's face.
Using tough defense and consistent offensive execution, the Utah Jazz closed out their five-day trek to the Orlando Pro Summer League with a 70-60 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday afternoon.
Utah dished out 19 assists and shot 47.3 percent from the field — including 50 percent (9-of-18) from 3-point range — to prevail over the Thunder. Reserve point guard Kevin Kruger led the way with 10 points and 5 assists in just 18 minutes of action. Eric Maynor, the starter at point guard, scored 8 points, dished out 4 assists and collected a pair of steals to offset 6 turnovers.
Defensively, the Jazz held Oklahoma City to 38 percent shooting from the field — including a dismal 2-of-12 from the perimeter. Larry Turner came up with several big plays for Utah on the defensive end and finished with 12 rebounds and 3 blocked shots in 24 minutes.
D.J. White scored 17 points and James Harden added 14 to lead the Thunder. Josh Duncan led all Jazz scorers with 12 points, while Derrick Brown and Andre Ingram chipped in 11 apiece.
Utah finished summer league play with a 3-2 record.
