Utah Utes football: Utes catch couple of receivers
Utah football's 2010 recruiting class has reached double-digits. The Utes picked up early commitments from a pair of California high school receivers Thursday.
Dres Anderson (6-1, 170) of J.W. North High in Riverside and Kenneth Scott (6-2, 198) of Colony High in Ontario are the latest to announce plans to sign letters of intent with the Utes in February.
"I feel very good about my decision. I'm very happy," said Anderson, who is the son of former NFL star "Flipper" Anderson. "I'm excited to be a Ute."
Anderson noted that Utah's academics (he plans to be a business/finance major) and the team's No. 2 national ranking last season weighed heavily in his decision. Anderson, who caught 24 passes for 462 yards and five touchdowns as a junior, also received offers from UTEP, Nevada and UNLV. He was also recruited by California, Arizona State, Oregon State, Boise State and his father's alma mater, UCLA.
Utah's other new commit, Scott, also drew interest from Pac-10 schools after catching 31 passes for 655 yards and five touchdowns last season.
Scott is friends with incoming Utah freshman Jamal Smith and patterns his game after ex-Ute Freddie Brown, who was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in April.
The addition of Anderson and Scott raises Utah's number of commitments to 10. The others include quarterback Brian Blechen (Moorpark, Calif.), running back Princeton Collins (Round Rock, Texas), linebacker Jacoby Hale (Beaumont, Texas), running back Josh Huff (Aldine, Texas), defensive end Joe Kruger (Timpanogos High School), athlete Darian Lazard (Pearland, Texas), defensive back Terrell Reese (Brenham, Texas) and athlete Joseph Smith (Norco, Calif.).
