Three Indian reservations in Utah get federal boost for water projects

Three Indian reservations in Utah will get a boost of a little more than $1.2 million in stimulus money to improve water infrastructure.

The money is part of $9.5 million being distributed to six states for shovel-ready projects. Overall, across the country, $90 million will be distributed to improve public and environmental health in Indian Country.

An announcement by the Environmental Protection Agency said the money will go to upgrade infrastructure such as wastewater lagoon systems, sewer lines, water tanks and pipes.

Utah recipients are:

- Skull Valley Goshutes, $193,900

-Ute Tribe in Colorado, New Mexico and Utah, $902,080

-Ute Tribe, Uintah and Ouray Reservation, $139,400

Federal agencies identified 95 wastewater and 64 drinking water priority projects that will be completed through stimulus funds. --Amy Joi O'Donoghue
