The U.S. Department of Transportation gave Utah on Thursday a $373,890 grant from the economic stimulus package for job training in transportation-related careers.

"Providing individuals with the job training skills they need is key to keeping our highway system up and running," said Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. "These training programs will help ensure that the American highway system has able stewards for years to come."

The Utah grant was part of $6.7 million split among 14 states for "On-the-Job Training Supportive Services" grants.

They were included in the financial stimulus package to help fund apprenticeships and training centers for underrepresented or disadvantaged people seeking careers in transportation, engineering or construction.
