OKLAHOMA CITY — The NCAA is citing Oklahoma State for a potential major rules violation in its baseball program.

The NCAA asked university President Burns Hargis to send school officials to a meeting of an infractions committee meeting in Indianapolis on Aug. 7-8.

The Oklahoman and Tulsa World first reported the potential violations, citing documents obtained under state open records laws.

Oklahoma State spokesman Gary Shutt says a violation was committed when a former baseball player received a 10-year-old car from an out-of-state family he stayed with while playing in a summer league.

Shutt says the university contends its was not a major violation, because the family had no prior connection with Oklahoma State athletics. He says the player did not appear in any games for the Cowboys after receiving the car.
