OREM — Utah Valley University's athletic department has finally made its way through an NCAA-mandated provisional period and will become a full member of the NCAA today.
University President Matthew Holland and Athletic Director Mike Jacobson are expected to announce the school's new Division I status this morning.
In 2001, the Utah Valley State College athletic department announced it would transition from junior college status to NCAA Division I. The NCAA transition began in 2003 with a one-year exploratory period and a five-year provisional period.
UVU will compete in the Great West Conference this year.
The official announcement, expected at 11 a.m., will be made at the McKay Events Center on the UVU campus.
