Salt Lake police had to use both pepper spray and a Taser on a man before they could apprehend him Tuesday.

Officers thought a 39-year-old man was one of a few wanted suspects they were looking for around 900 West and Quayle Avenue. They had a warrant out for a man charged with two counts of assaulting an officer and one count of fleeing from the law.

"I don't think he was the guy they were looking for," said Salt Lake Police Sgt. Robin Snyder. But when he saw the officers, he bolted anyway, she said.

A sergeant caught up to the fleeing man and sprayed him with pepper spray. But it wasn't enough to stop him. He took off but ran into several officers across the street. After a short struggle with them, he was hit with a Taser.

The man was taken to the hospital for treatment before he was booked into jail. One of the officers he struggled with was treated on the scene for minor injuries.
