COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS — A California man previously convicted of having sex with a minor was arrested here after detectives said he raped a 13-year-old girl he met on MySpace.
William Suh, 24, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail Monday night for investigation of one count of object rape of a child. Investigators believe Suh met his victim on MySpace several weeks ago, said Cottonwood Heights police detective Beau Babka. After a couple of weeks of conversing through the social network Web site, the two decided to meet and Suh traveled to Utah, Babka said. He arrived in Cottonwood Heights about three weeks ago.
The girl portrayed herself on her MySpace page as being between 16 and 18 years old, he said. She was living in an apartment with her older sister. Suh stayed with the sisters after he arrived, Babka said.
What exactly happened during Suh's time with the victim was still being investigated Tuesday.
"It almost sounds like (the victim) got in well over her head," Babka said.
The two had "sexual contact on multiple occasions," during the weeks he was with her, according to a Salt Lake County Jail report.
The girl eventually called her father and told him what had happened. He called police.
Suh was previously convicted in California on charges of having sex with a minor, carrying a loaded firearm and making terroristic threats.
