Utah Jazz notebook: Koufos out after finger injury
The Jazz were without the services of Kosta Koufos on Monday. The second-year center will miss all five games of summer league this year with a dislocated ring finger on his left hand.
The injury is disappointing for all parties involved. The Jazz were looking forward to working with Koufos – who now reportedly weighs close to 270 pounds. Apparently the injury occurred when his hand was slapped during a pickup game. The Jazz could have used him in their 31-point loss to the Celtics on Monday.
JERRY SLOAN IS OK: Jerry Sloan's knee is feeling a little better.
"I'm fine," Sloan said. The 67-year-old Jazz coach had his left knee replaced on April 30. He didn't do much moving around on Monday, though watching his team lose by 31 points had to make him a bit uneasy, despite a solid performance from Eric Maynor.
"It's pretty tough because all of them played terrible tonight," Sloan said. "They got their butts beat. It's hard to say one guy played well."
Sloan, however, did give the rookie guard a positive review.
"He's been fine," he said. "He's worked hard in camp. I expect the first game or so for him to struggle. Trying to run an offense and get everyone to understand what we're doing. But he's been fine."
