WEST VALLEY CITY — The identity of a 73-year-old West Valley woman who drowned in a backyard pond at her home Sunday is still being withheld as police are trying to notify her family.

A man who had been renting a cottage on her property found the woman around 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Police said efforts by both the man and paramedics to revive the woman were unsuccessful.

West Valley Police Sgt. Terence Chen said that while the investigation into her death is ongoing, authorities believe it was an accident.

"There doesn't appear to be any foul play," he said. "It may be a medical issue, kind of a wrong time, wrong location situation."

Chen said police want to notify the woman's husband, who is traveling, before her identity is made public.
