Crew's home unbeaten streak hits 17
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Alejandro Moreno scored the tying goal in the 59th minute, and the Columbus Crew pushed their home unbeaten streak to 17 games with a 1-1 draw with D.C. United on Saturday night.
Christian Gomez scored his fourth goal in the 33rd minute to give United (5-3-9) the lead, but the Crew rallied to extend their streak despite being outshot 22-9. Columbus' 11-0-6 run at Crew Stadium is one game shy of tying the MLS record for home unbeaten streaks.
Columbus (5-3-8) got the equalizer when Steven Lenhart, who entered at the start of the second half, flicked a cross from Emmanuel Ekpo to Moreno and he settled the ball before scoring his third goal.
DYNAMO 1, WIZARDS 0: At Kansas City, Kan., Kei Kamara scored on Mike Chabala's first career assist, giving the Houston Dynamo a 1-0 victory over the Kansas City Wizards on Saturday night.
Houston's Pat Onstad made three saves for his eighth shutout of the year, giving him the MLS lead over Chivas USA's Zach Thornton.
The Dynamo (9-3-4), who extended their Western Conference lead to four points over Chivas, broke a two-match winless streak.
Kansas City (5-6-4) controlled the run of play early, with three clear scoring opportunities in the first 11 minutes, before Houston scored on a counterattack in the 18th.
FIRE 2, RAPIDS 1: At Commerce City, Colo., Marco Pappa and Wilman Conde scored and the Chicago Fire ended a three-game losing streak — and a 10-game skid in Colorado — with a 2-1 victory over the Rapids on Saturday night.
Chicago (6-3-6) had been 0-6-4 on the road against the Rapids since 1999. The Fire were coming off a three-week absence from the MLS schedule to play three SuperLiga matches and hadn't played a league match since losing to D.C. United on June 13. Chicago is now 5-1-3 on the road.
Jacob Peterson scored for Colorado (5-4-6), which has lost two straight for the first time this season. The Rapids also dropped to 11-2-1 on Fourth of July matches.
FC DALLAS 2, RED BULLS 1: At Frisco, Texas, Jeff Cunningham scored twice in a 2-minute span of the first half to lead FC Dallas to a 2-1 victory Saturday night that extended the New York Red Bulls' road winless skid to 23 games.
FC Dallas (4-7-5) extended its unbeaten streak to three games while pushing the Red Bulls' overall winless streak to 10. New York's last won on May 8, when it beat San Jose 4-1. The Red Bulls (2-13-4) are also 0-17-6 in their last 23 on the road.
