UTAH STATE PRISON — Prison officials planned to review surveillance video to determine how an inmate was stabbed in the head Saturday and who might be responsible.

About 3:30 p.m., an inmate approached a corrections officer informing him that he had been attacked during a confrontation in a commons areas of the medium security Wasatch housing unit, said Department of Corrections spokeswoman Angie Welling.

The inmate suffered at least one puncture wound behind one of his ears. He was taken to a local hospital in stable condition. The injury was not considered life threatening, Welling said.

The brief confrontation was not witnessed by officers, she said. Officials were looking Sunday for a weapon and a motive.
