Two men arrested following high-speed chase near Morgan
MORGAN — A man escaped police custody Friday but was apprehended again after leading officers on a high-speed chase.
Roberto Resendez, 31, was pulled over for speeding about 5:30 p.m. near Morgan. According to a news release from the Utah Highway Patrol, Resendez failed a field sobriety test. However, when the officer tried to handcuff Resendez, the man bolted for his car, the release states.
A trooper deployed his Taser at Resendez as the man fled, but only one prong struck. Resendez then drove off with an intoxicated passenger in a white Cadillac Escalade, police said.
After two U-turns, the Cadillac headed west on I-84, at times reaching speeds near 120 mph.
Utah Highway Patrol responded with 10 troopers, deploying three waves of spikes that eventually punctured three of the Cadillac's tires.
With an inoperable car, Resendez stopped near a Morgan off-ramp and began to flee on foot. The news release states he was caught soon after.
Both men were arrested. Resendez is being held on suspicion of felony evasion of police plus a list of misdemeanor charges that include disorderly conduct, driving under the influence of alcohol, littering, having on open container of alcohol in his vehicle and never obtaining a driver's license. His passenger, Luis Enrique Davios, was held on suspicion of public intoxication.
