BULLFROG BASIN, Kane County (AP) — Authorities arrested two boaters and cited 70 for alcohol or safety violations at Lake Powell as part of a nationwide crackdown on unsafe boating.

Last weekend, law enforcement in Utah set up a checkpoint at Halls Crossing Marina at Lake Powell in southern Utah. Last weekend was designated as Operation Dry Water by a national boating group that wants to prevent drug and alcohol use by boaters.

Dave Harris, boating program manager for Utah State Parks, says two people were arrested for boating under the influence and deputies wrote three citations for open containers. Another 67 citations were written for safety violations and 123 people received warnings.
