BRIGHAM CITY — A former ranch manager has entered no-contest pleas in abeyance to 10 counts of third-degree felony theft in a cattle rustling case.

Richard W. Travis, 56, also pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony counts of possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person. He was sentenced last week in 1st District Court on those charges to probation and 30 days in the Box Elder County Jail, with credit for 13 days already served.

Police said Travis took cattle from a herd he was in charge of managing at the Rock Creek Ranch in Snowville in 2006. They alleged he then sold the livestock at auctions and kept the proceeds.

The theft counts will be dismissed after 18 months if Travis commits no new offenses.
