Provo boy suffers near drowning
CALGARY, Alberta — A 4-year-old Utah boy is recovering in a Calgary hospital after he was pulled unconscious from Waterton Lake at the Canada-U.S. border.
The boy from Provo was in stable condition after being airlifted to Alberta Children's Hospital. His name was not released.
He was crossing a bridge at Boundary Creek on Wednesday when he fell off and was swept into Boundary Bay, on the Montana side of the border at the south end of Upper Waterton Lake in Glacier National Park.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police say the boy's father jumped into the fast-flowing creek to try to rescue him but was also swept down to the lake.
When nearby boaters found the pair minutes later, the youngster was not breathing and was submerged about 3 feet below the lake surface.
