Citrine aglow with passion for Celtic music

Most of what she sent to them were arrangements of Celtic songs "and close-to Celtic songs that reflected my pre-existing love of Celtic music," she says. As they were being published, she began thinking about forming a choir to sing those songs.
She held auditions in January 2008, selected 12 women and has been working with Citrine ever since. "It takes awhile to develop the vocal tone," she says. "I like that treble sound and chose voices that were all close to the signature sound, but everyone still has their own journey to get to where we want to be."
She takes them in directions that choirs don't usually go, she says. "The music is different; the arrangements are different." For one thing, what she plays is not written down and is a little different every time, so the choir has to react. "We hope to do even more improvising."
There's such a difference, Hildebrandt says, in doing music for yourself and in putting it out there for others. And it's always fun to find others who share your passion and your music, she says. "You think 'Wow! Someone likes my stuff. Maybe I can do more.' "
You may think of Celtic music and think of green — the Emerald Isle and all. But for Hildebrandt and Citrine, who like doing things a bit differently, it's all about the color orange.
