A family gathering turned sour when an argument between two brothers-in-law led to a stabbing late Thursday.

Weber County Sheriff's Lt. Philip Howell said the family was at Causey Estates east of Ogden when an argument between the two men escalated and a knife was pulled.

"One, in the heat of the moment, pulled a knife and stabbed the other twice in the chest area," Howell said. "The injuries were not life-threatening."

Howell said the stabbed man was taken to McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden. Police do not know what caused the argument or whether the men had a history of conflict, but they do know alcohol was involved in the incident.

The men's identities are not being released as the investigation is ongoing. Police said detectives are going to wait to file charges until they can process all of the evidence.

"They're looking at some conflicting statements and the possibility of self-defense," Howell said.
