Corbin Louks is pretty determined about his future. The only University of Utah quarterback with NCAA experience plans to be the Utes' next starter.

"This is my job and I'm not going to lose it," he said. "Right now my mindset is to get myself better, get my team better and get ready for Utah State."

Though the junior is considered the frontrunner to replace Brian Johnson, it remains to be seen who'll actually be taking the snaps when the Utes host the Aggies on Sept. 3.

Louks is being challenged for the post by junior college transfer Terrance Cain and promising freshman Jordan Wynn.

Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said all three quarterbacks will get an opportunity to earn the job in fall camp.

Louks, however, currently holds the top spot in the pecking order. He appeared in nine games last season as Johnson's backup.

"They're pushing me. But right now I'm doing the best I can to lead them and show them how to work and know what it takes to win championships because I've been through it," Louks said. "Even though I haven't been on the stage personally leading the team out there I know what kind of work it takes."

The quarterbacks get along well. They watch film together and are working with the receivers as a group. Louks insists there's no bad blood between the competitors.

"They were told coming in that they would have a chance to compete and they're having a chance to compete," Louks said. "I'm really excited to get fall camp started, get back out there on the field again and to get ready for this first game."

Louks, who has 4.42 speed in the 40, isn't upset that the coaching staff didn't rush into a decision and name a definitive No. 1 guy after spring ball.

"I kind of had the feeling they would run it into camp. I wasn't too surprised that they didn't name someone," Louks said. "It's something I'm not worried about. It will take care of itself."

Although he acknowledged it would be nice to already know if he'll actually be the starter, Louks is determined to just do his thing and stay consistent running the offense.

"I'm already really motivated coming off the season that we had," he said. "It really motivates me to try to repeat something like that, to do the best you can and to strive for that."

With 14 consecutive victories over two seasons, Utah has the longest active win streak in the nation.

"It's motivation to make us work hard," said Louks, who compared it to stepping on a gas pedal and keeping it down. "Our mindset right now is to just keep it rolling . . . We all know what it takes to get there."
