The National Weather Service says Utah should see another active day Friday, especially in the northern part of the state.

"The moisture will hang through Saturday resulting in an unsettled Independence Day statewide," an NWS weather forecast said Thursday.

The NWS is concerned about periodic heavy rainfall and warns that those planning outdoor recreation over the weekend should be wary of flooding — especially in dry washes and slot canyons prone to flash floods.

Across northern Utah there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Friday, mostly in the afternoon, with highs near 84.

The same chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected on Independence Day, with a high near 88. Showers and thunderstorms could continue throughout the night Saturday, according to the NWS.

But the NWS believes a ridge could move into the area Sunday, beginning a warming and drying trend.
