DVDs next best thing to seeing JoBros live
"JONAS BROTHERS: The 3-D Concert Experience," Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, 2009, G, $44.99
Hey you Jonas Brothers fans. Remember there are three versions of the JoBros concert film, which was released on Blu-ray and DVD earlier this week.
First off is a three-disc combo pack — "Jonas Brothers: The 3-D Concert Experience." It features an extended version of the 3-D film in Blu-ray; a 2-D DVD of the extended version; and an additional disc that lets fans download a digital 2-D version of the film from the Web for iPods and such.
The second version is a two-DVD package that with the 2-D version of the film and the disc for digital downloads.
The third version is a single DVD of the film in 2-D.
That's right, the 3-D version of the movie is only available on Blu-ray. And to get the film in Blu-ray, you have to buy the deluxe package.
That's bothersome because the Blu-ray package is $44.99. The two-DVD version is $32.99, and the single DVD version is $29.99.
And, of course, this release is "only available for a limited time," according to the press release.
Still, if you like the JoBros, this is the next best thing to seeing the trio live in concert.
In addition to the extended concert, there are, of course, bonus material in all three packages — two bonus songs ("Love Bug" and "Shelf") and a backstage docufeature titled "Inside the Lives of the Jonas Brothers on Tour."
While the film didn't do as well theatrically as Disney hoped, it's not that bad. The band of brothers mug quite a bit for the camera, but they give the fans in the audience, as well as those viewing from home, a high-energy show.
There is also a tip of the hat to the Beatles' "Hard Days Night" in scenes where the JoBros find ways to elude their ever-devoted tweeny fans.
All in all, this is a nice little film for fans.
