Provo mayoral candidate list now at four
PROVO — One more candidate added his name to the list for Provo mayor Wednesday, the first day candidates could file for the November municipal election.
Andrew P. Thompson joined Don Allphin, Rep. Steve Clark, R-Provo; and John Curtis in the race for the mayoral post.
Mayor Lewis K. Billings has chosen to step down from the top city office he has held for 12 years and four terms, which ends Dec. 31.
Other seats up for grabs are City-Wide District 1, now held by Councilman Dave Acheson; District 2, held by Cynthia Clark, Rep. Clark's wife (she, too, is stepping down) and District 5 held by Cindy Richards. She has filed for re-election and unless others file, will face Robert S. Oscanyan.
So far only Coy Porter has filed to run for the City-Wide District 1 council seat.
In the south Utah County mayoral and council races the following have filed:
Elk Ridge: Kenneth Lutes for mayor.
Goshen: The mayor and three council seats are open and no one has filed.
Mapleton: Council incumbent Brian Wall filed for re-election.
Salem: The mayor and two council seats are open and no one had filed as of mid-afternoon on Wednesday.
Spanish Fork: The mayor and two seats are open and by mid-afternoon incumbent Councilman Steven M. Leifson filed for re-election along with former councilman Seth V. Sorenson. Councilman G. Wayne Anderson filed to run for mayor.
Springville: The mayor's seat and two city council seats are open. Incumbent councilman Mark Packard filed Wednesdy.
Woodland Hills: No one filed for mayor or either of the two open council seats.
