Hike of the Week: Taylor Canyon to Malan's Peak, Weber County
Taylor Canyon to Malan's Peak — Weber County
The Taylor Canyon South Trail starts at the 29th Street Trailhead information shelter. The trail goes up and crosses the Bonneville Shoreline Trail for Taylor Canyon. At 0.9 miles you come to a footbridge over Taylor Creek. Go right after crossing it. The trail stays along Taylor Creek for about a half mile to the trail junction for Malan's Peak. The trees along the creek give plenty of shade, and the sound of rushing water is a beautiful noise to the ears. At 1.35 miles you arrive at the trail junction. Take the Malan's Basin Trail into the conifers. After crossing the footbridge, there are a few places where the trail is eroding. Watch your footing as you make your way up this steepest section to the Ogden overlook. At the overlook, take a needed break and enjoy in the view of the valley below. After your rest, the trail turns southeast and goes around the backside of mountain. There is plenty of shade as the trail switchbacks through the forest, with sneak peeks of Mount Ogden. After the third switchback you arrive at Malan's Peak. The peak offers a 360-degree view of the Ogden area, and Mount Ogden stands tall to the east.
