BOUNTIFUL — A boy was flown to the hospital in critical condition Tuesday evening after a power line fell onto a swing set that he was playing on.

The 2-year-old boy was on the swing set at his aunt's house near 3200 South and 700 West just after 5 p.m. when the power line came down on him, Bountiful Police Sgt. Gary Koehn said.

"When rescue crews arrived the wires were still hot, so they got him out of the danger zone in order to administer first aid," Koehn said.

The boy was originally flown to Primary Children's Medical Center but was transferred to the burn unit at University Hospital, according to Koehn.

He suffered severe burns on his shoulder, where authorities believe the electric current entered, as well as burns to his feet and arms.

"The problem with electricity is it has the tendency to burn on the inside as well," Koehn said.

Police are still investigating, but believe that a tree branch may have broken which caused the line to and fall.
