BYU Cougars

PDL standings: 3-4-3, 12 points, 7th place, Southwest Division

Last week: Tied Southern California, 3-3; lost to Ventura County, 4-2.

Next up: at Ogden, Wednesday.

Up 3-1 against the Southern California Seahorses midway through the second half on Friday, the Cougars were forced to settle for a 3-3 draw on the road. BYU conceded a penalty with about 20 minutes to go before allowing Southern California to get an equalizer in the dying seconds of the match. One day later, the Cougars fell 4-2 against Ventura County. Zack Defrancis and Brady Marshall had consolation goals for BYU in the defeat.

Ogden Outlaws

PDL standings: 1-8-1, 4 points, 10th place, Southwest Division

Last week: Lost to Lancaster, 4-3; Lost to Hollywood, 7-3.

Next up: vs. BYU, Wednesday.

Ogden's final two games outside of the state of Utah yielded no points, as the Outlaws lost a heart-breaker to Lancaster on Friday before being blasted by Hollywood on Saturday. Against Lancaster, Sam Charles had scored in the 85th minute for Ogden to level the match and seemingly put the Outlaws on the brink of earning a point. Instead, they gave up goal a few moments later to lose in heart-breaking fashion. One day later, Hollywood blasted Ogden, 7-3.

Salt LakeSparta

WPSL standings: 4-2-1, 13 points, 2nd place, Big Sky North Division

Last week: Beat Arizona, 2-1.

Next up: vs. Denver, Saturday.

With a chance to take control of its destiny in the race to win the Big Sky North Division midway through the regular season, Salt Lake took full advantage of the opportunity by beating Arizona, 2-1, on Friday. Arizona remains in first place in the Big Sky North with 15 points, but Salt Lake is just two points behind and has a game in hand. Sparta is scheduled to meet Denver on the Fourth of July at 1 p.m. at Woods Cross High.

UtahStarzz

WPSL standings: 1-2-4, 7 points, T-4th place, Big Sky North Division

Last week: Lost to Arizona, 3-1.

Next up: vs. Denver, Friday.

With a few key players sitting on the sidelines, Utah fell against division-leading Arizona last Saturday. The Arizona Rush played their way to a 3-0 lead midway through the second half before Shantel Flanery scored a consolation goal for the Starzz, holding off a defender before firing into the corner. Utah will hope to break through with a win when Denver comes to town this weekend. The Starzz will host Denver at Timpview High on Friday, beginning at 6 p.m.
