A small plane crashed at Utah Hill, near the Utah-Arizona border, resulting in the death of its pilot.
The man, whose identity was not immediately released, was flying from Las Vegas to Cedar City when his plane went down and crashed into the hill. He was supposed to arrive at his destination by 11 a.m.Tuesday. When he became three hours late, the Cedar City airport alerted Washington County Sheriff's Office that a plane might have gone down in their area.
The Civil Air Patrol located the crash site at 2:30 p.m., just a half hour after being alerted. Pieces of the burnt plane were strewn everywhere, said Chief Deputy Rob Tersigni. He wasn't sure if the burnt body could be recovered from the wreckage.
There were no other passengers on board the plane.
The sheriff's office plans to release the name of the pilot Wednesday, after his family members have been notified.
