PROVO — Police have identified a man who they say robbed a Provo pharmacy after spending more than an hour chatting with store employees.

Police say Jack Rader, 23, of Las Vegas, entered Walgreens, 1315 N. State, around 1 a.m. Monday and talked with employees before leaving at 2 a.m. At 3:40 a.m., he came back into the store and started another conversation, said Provo Police Capt. Cliff Argyle.

Twenty minutes later, Rader told the pharmacist he wanted OxyContin and oxycodone and pulled out a pistol, Argyle said.

To speed up the robbery, Rader jumped over the counter and grabbed several bottles of each type of pill, shoving them into a plastic grocery bag before running out, police said. He was last seen going south, Argyle said.

Thanks to surveillance photos from Walgreens, Argyle said someone recognized Rader and called police Monday afternoon. Police believe Rader is driving a green Ford F-150 extended cab with Nevada license plates. The truck's passenger side mirror and tail light are damaged.

Provo police are in the process of obtaining an arrest warrant for Rader and have also contacted Las Vegas authorities. Anyone who has any information about Rader is asked to call 801-852-6210 or Provo police detective Drew Hubbard at 801-852-7248.
