SPANISH FORK — A bit of Iceland comes again to Spanish Fork as the annual Icelandic Days celebration continues today and Sunday.
Icelanders settled Spanish Fork in the 1850s after converting to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Many of their descendants still remain in the area.
The Icelandic Association of Utah sponsors the event.
Today the Iceland Days Family and Friends Fair begins at 10 a.m. with a flag ceremony at Spanish Fork City Park, Main and Center.
It features family activities and Icelandic food. A bus tour of historical Icelandic sites begins at 2 p.m.
The celebration continues Sunday with the Heritage Fireside at 7 p.m. in the LDS meetinghouse at 300 E. Center. Speakers are Icelander Kristjana H. Bardardottir and Robert L. Millet, who served as Ancient Scripture Department chairman and dean of religious education at BYU.
