HIGHLAND — A 4-year-old cruising the sidewalks in his Big Wheel escaped injury Thursday afternoon when a parked car got shoved into his path.
The boy was playing outside his home near 6200 West and Stevens Lane about noon when a truck drove by and caught the corner of a parked two-door passenger car, said Sgt. Jake Moosman with the Lone Peak Public Safety District.
The impact pushed the passenger car up onto the sidewalk and partially onto the lawn, very close to the boy, Moosman said.
"He's so young, so excited and upset, we're having a hard time getting exact details from him," Moosman said. "We're not sure if the vehicle came close to him or (actually) tapped him."
However, even if there was contact, neither the boy nor his bike were injured, Moosman said.
The posted speed limit in the residential neighborhood is 25 mph, although police don't know yet how fast the teenage boy was driving, Moosman said. The driver was cited, but not injured. Both the truck and the passenger car were damaged.
