BYU

BASEBALL: Seven teams who played in the NCAA baseball regionals are among the schools on BYU's schedule for 2010.

Texas A&M, Baylor, Gonzaga, Kansas State and Mountain West Conference foes TCU, San Diego State and Utah each made NCAA postseason appearances in 2009.

The Cougars open the home season on March 11 with a three-game weekend stand against the University of Washington, who will have a new coach. Washington State and Kansas State also highlight the non-conference teams that come to Provo in 2010.

Other teams coming to Provo include TCU, UNLV, Utah, Utah Valley and San Diego State.

The Cougars will make two trips to the state of Washington to play at Gonzaga on March 15-16. On April 26-27, BYU plays at Seattle University, which is bringing back baseball as a varsity sport and begins competition in the 2009-10 academic year.

BYU has seven games in the state of Texas with Texas A&M, Baylor, Texas-Arlington and TCU. The Cougars play at least 10 games in California against UC Riverside, UC Davis, San Jose State and in the MWC Tournament hosted by San Diego State.

The tentative schedule is posted on-line at www.byucougars.com.

WESTMINSTER

FOOTBALL: It is a little-known fact that Westminster College fielded a football team going back as far as 1919. The school had three different periods of football from 1919 though the final season of competition in 1981, and this weekend all players are invited back for the All-Class Football Reunion.

Among the alumni attending the weekend are John Peterson and Steve Kazor, who have each been coaches in the National Football League. Also, several alumni are local high school coaches. Chris Georgelas from Murray High and Stan Finn from Judge Memorial will be in attendance.

The weekend will be used to celebrate Westminster's football history, announce the creation of a Westminster Hall of Fame, and celebrate the recent success of the current athletic program. Activities begin on Friday with an Alumni Golf Tournament at Mountain Dell Golf Course. There is a reunion brunch on Saturday, with campus tours to follow. That evening is the reunion banquet, which will be emceed by radio personality Tom Barberi. There is a reception at 6 p.m. at the Kim T. Adamson Alumni House, with the banquet to follow at 7 p.m. in the Behnken Field House, both on the campus of the college.
