OREM — Meals-on-Wheels needs back-up, on-call volunteers for the summer in several Utah County areas.
Volunteers work for an hour once a week delivering lunch between 10:30 a.m. and noon to seniors 60 and older who are unable to leave their homes without assistance. The routes of delivery are in a limited radius, and volunteers drop off eight to 12 meals.
Meals-on-Wheels serves 600 homebound seniors living in Wasatch, Utah and Summit counties, said Liz Merrell, volunteer coordinator for the program. Merrell said the program helps seniors avoid having to live in nursing homes.
The program in Utah County started just over a year ago, and "the volunteers are the best people you'll ever meet," she said.
If interested, contact Merrell at 801-229-3821 or emerrell@mountainland.org or apply online at www.mountainland.org/volunteer.
