Salt Lake County manages water drainage from major outlets, such as Corner Canyon Creek and Willow Creek in Draper, but County Engineering Division Director Neil Stack said they aren't experiencing any flooding problems.

However, Stack warned that debris flowing down areas such as Mount Olympus Road in Draper could create problems in the future if no debris basins are built to collect waste and prevent mudslides.

"Anytime you have a storm centered on one of those base drainage systems, it could be an issue," Stack said. "The top residential development of Mount Olympus Cove that would be affected is some 200 to 300 homes."

For now, the city has focused on educating children and making sure the drainage systems flow properly. Watson said Draper has a three-man crew doing the continual maintenance work for the whole city to keep it clear.

Instead of cleaning out the drains every time, Watson recommended citizens stop blowing their grass clippings out onto the street, where it eventually blocks storm drains.

"This is not a trash can," said Oehlerking, pointing to the clogged storm drains.
