The University of Utah has named a new dean for its College of Social and Behavioral Science.
M. David Rudd, a professor and department chairman from Texas Tech University, will replace Steve Ott on July 1.
Rudd currently serves as chairman of the Department of Psychology at Texas Tech and has conducted substantial research on clinical suicidology, cognitive therapy, and ethics and regulatory issues in psychology.
"The University of Utah is extremely fortunate to have successfully attracted Professor Rudd for this important leadership role," said David Pershing, senior vice president for academic affairs.
"He brings a proven track record in successfully managing a very large department and also attracting major, external research for his own highly regarded research."
Rudd said he is thrilled by the appointment. "The U. has an exceptional national and international reputation, outstanding leadership, talented faculty and staff, as well as energetic and engaging students."
After stepping down as dean, Ott plans to divide his time as director of the Institute of Public and International Affairs and the Center for Public Policy and Administration, and to teach and do academic research.
